Governance

Effective governance is about more than oversight. It requires understanding the organization, asking the right questions, challenging assumptions when necessary and ensuring that decisions remain aligned with purpose, accountability and long term sustainability.

My governance experience has developed across healthcare, community organizations, business and a national corporate network. These roles have given me experience working with boards, committees, executives, professionals and community stakeholders where fiduciary responsibility, strategic direction and organizational performance intersect.

Healthcare Governance

I served as a Director of the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation, bringing experience in healthcare administration and organizational leadership to the board, and as a member of the Trent Hills Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, helping the community attract and keep the physicians it needs.

My earlier healthcare career included senior administrative leadership at Metropolitan General Hospital and McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences. That experience gave me a practical understanding of the relationship between governance, management, clinical operations, financial stewardship and organizational performance.

Community Leadership

My governance experience also extends to community organizations where organizational stewardship, community impact and responsible decision making are closely connected.

I served as President of the Campbellford/Seymour Community Foundation, as a Director of the Trent Hills & District Chamber of Commerce and as a Director of the Campbellford Seymour Curling and Racquets Club. These roles provided experience working with community leaders, volunteers, businesses and other stakeholders to advance organizational objectives and strengthen the communities those organizations served.

Corporate & Industry Governance

My governance experience also includes leadership within the broader national corporate and dealer organization in which I operated.

I served as a Director of Canadian Tire Dealer Holdings, Chair of the Central Eastern Ontario Dealer Group and Secretary Treasurer of the Canadian Tire Dealers Association. These roles provided experience working at the intersection of business operations, industry leadership, governance and the interests of a national network of independent business owners.

Governance in Practice

Across healthcare, community organizations and business, the responsibilities of governance are fundamentally similar: understand the organization, ask informed questions, challenge assumptions when necessary and ensure that decisions remain aligned with purpose and long term sustainability.

My governance experience has reinforced the importance of informed oversight, accountability and sound stewardship. It has also demonstrated that effective governance depends on understanding the realities faced by the people and organizations responsible for delivering results.

Experience That Informs Leadership

Good governance is ultimately about judgment. It requires the ability to understand complexity, recognize risk, ask difficult questions and make decisions with incomplete information.

My experience across healthcare, business, governance and entrepreneurship has given me a practical perspective on those responsibilities.

That perspective continues to inform how I approach leadership, business and commercial real estate today.
