Leadership Experience
My career has spanned healthcare administration, academic medicine, enterprise operations, business ownership and governance. Across each chapter, I have been responsible for organizations where financial performance, people, systems and strategic decisions have to work together.
I began my career in healthcare administration, progressing from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to senior administrative leadership at Metropolitan General Hospital and McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences.
I subsequently spent 29 years building and leading a multi million dollar enterprise, ultimately assuming responsibility for more than $30 million in annual revenue and more than 120 employees.
These experiences provided a perspective that extends beyond any single sector. They have required me to lead people, manage significant resources, allocate capital, understand risk, negotiate complex relationships and translate strategy into measurable operating results.
Healthcare Leadership
My career in healthcare began with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, followed by senior administrative leadership at Metropolitan General Hospital and McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences.
At Metropolitan General Hospital, I served as Director of Standards, with responsibilities spanning quality improvement, customer satisfaction, management information systems, risk and loss control, occupational health and safety, Board evaluation and orientation, Employee Health Services, hospital security and contract negotiations.
At McMaster University, I became Manager of the Department of Medicine, one of the largest clinical departments in the Faculty of Health Sciences. I was responsible for financial, physical and human resources supporting a large academic and clinical organization.
Enterprise Leadership
I subsequently spent 29 years building and leading a multi million dollar enterprise, ultimately assuming responsibility for more than $30 million in annual revenue and more than 120 employees.
As President and owner, I held full responsibility for financial performance, operations, workforce leadership, capital planning, facilities, inventory, customer service, risk management, compliance and organizational sustainability.
The experience required me to operate across multiple departments and functions within a highly structured national corporate environment. I developed extensive practical experience in P&L management, budgeting and forecasting, capital allocation, facilities and fixed asset management, organizational design, succession planning, performance management, negotiation, risk and governance.
It also gave me the opportunity to lead through periods of significant economic, operational and organizational change, with a consistent focus on accountability, performance and long term sustainability.
Community Leadership
Governance has been a consistent part of my career, both within organizations and in the broader communities they serve.
My experience includes service as a Director of the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation, a member of the Trent Hills Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, President of the Campbellford/Seymour Community Foundation, Director of the Trent Hills & District Chamber of Commerce and Director of the Campbellford Seymour Curling and Racquets Club. I have also held governance and leadership roles within the broader national dealer organization in which I operated.
These experiences have reinforced the importance of accountability, stewardship, informed decision making and the relationship between organizational performance and the communities that organizations serve.
Education & Professional Credentials
I hold a Master of Health Sciences in Health Administration from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts in Politics from Brock University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science from McMaster University.
I am also a Certified Health Executive and Life Member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
My academic and professional background reflects a longstanding interest in organizational leadership, healthcare administration, public policy, governance and the practical application of strategy.
Today I apply that experience to helping clinics and health organizations with their space and their operations.
